BREAKING Sid Haig dead: Star of Rob Zombie's horror movies dies at 80
Actor Sid Haig has died aged 80.
The movie star, who appeared in three of Rob Zombie's horror movies, passed away on Saturday, according to his wife Susan L. Oberg.
She confirmed the news in a touching post on Instagram , describing his death as a "shock".
Susan wrote: "On Saturday, September 21, 2019, my light, my heart, my true love, my King, the other half of my soul, Sidney, passed from this realm on to the next.
"He has returned to the Universe, a shining star in her heavens. He was my angel, my husband, my best friend and always will be.
"He adored his family, his friends and his fans. This came as a shock to all of us.
"We, as a family, are asking that our privacy and time to mourn be respected.
"Goodnight, my love. We will find each other again, next time. I love you."
His death comes three weeks after Susan told fans Sid was in hospital in intensive care after suffering an accident.
She wrote: "Sid has had an accident and is in the hospital in ICU. Everyone please pray for him," she is believed to have stated."
Susan later confirmed he'd "bounced back like a champ".
Sid is best known for playing Captain Spaulding in three of Rob Zombie's horror movies House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects and 3 From Hell.
His other screen credits include a small role in James Bond movie Diamonds Are Forever, and parts in Batman, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible, The Rockford Files, Get Smart and The Dukes of Hazzard and MacGyver.
He worked consistently up until his retirement in 1992.
However, he later returned to showbiz but turned down a the part of Marsellus Wallace in Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction.
Sid is said to have always regretted the decision but later got a chance to work with the director again when he wrote the part of the judge in Jackie Brown specifically for him.
He finally made it to the big time in 2003, when Rob Zombie offered in the starring role in his debut movie House of 1000 Corpses.
The role introduced Sid to a legion of fans, and he went on to reprise his role of Captain Spaulding in two more of Zombie's films, The Devil's Rejects and 3 From Hell, which is out this month.
He also appeared in Zombie's remake of horror classic Halloween .
