Horror legend, The Devil's Rejects star Sid Haig has died at 80
Actor Sid Haig, a legend in the horror genre best known for movies HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES and THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, with a career spanning decades, has passed away at the age of 80. Haig's wife, Susan L. Oberg, confirmed the news this morning by posting to Instagram with the following statement:
On Saturday, September 21, 2019, my light, my heart, my true love, my King, the other half of my soul, Sidney, passed from this realm on to the next. He has returned to the Universe, a shining star in her heavens. He was my angel, my husband, my best friend and always will be. He adored his family, his friends and his fans. This came as a shock to all of us. We, as a family, are asking that our privacy and time to mourn be respected. Sidney Eddie Mosesian 7/14/39 - 9/21/19 Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend. Goodnight, my love. We will find each other again, next time. I love you.

Born Sidney Eddie Mosesian in Fresno, California, Sid initially took to music before becoming an actor, becoming a drummer for the T-Birds and seeing success with the 1958 hit, "Full House". But he soon moved into acting, landing a role in Jack Hill's (FOXY BROWN) student film, THE HOST, in 1960. He then continued to work in films and TV into the 60s, 70s and 80s, landing roles in Hill's SPIDER BABY, COFFY and FOXY BROWN, as well as THX 1138 for George Lucas, the James Bond movie DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER and more.
Unsatisfied with the roles he was getting, saying he kept being typecast in villain roles and as "heavies", Haig retired from acting in 1992. However, he was later offered the role of Marcellus Wallace in Quentin Tarantino's PULP FICTION (before turning it down), and later returned to the screen for 1997's JACKIE BROWN from the director. A few years later he would land the role he will be most known for as Captain Spaulding in Rob Zombie's HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES, reprising the role for THE DEVIL'S REJECTS and this year's 3 FROM HELL.
He had a much smaller role in this year's third entry, with Zombie telling EW that he shortened the role after visiting Haig in the hospital three weeks before shooting began. "I went to see him, and he had changed drastically from the last time I saw him," Zombie said. "Because Sid, he's big and burly, and now he's tiny as a skeleton. So, I was like, oh man. I kind of realized, yeah, he's in rough shape."
Zombie took to Instagram after his passing, writing, "Horray for Captain Spaulding. Gone but not forgotten."
All in all, Haig had a career that spanned decades, with his most recent works being Zombie's THE LORDS OF SALEM, S. Craig Zahler's BONE TOMAHAWK and more. Reports of the actor's declining heath began circulating recently after he suffered what he called on his official Instagram account (via Variety) as a "nasty spill" and was sent to the ER.
We here at JoBlo will certainly miss Haig, and send his loved ones our condolences.
