Giants Expect To Be Without Saquon Barkley For 'Several Weeks'
The New York Giants are expecting to be without running back Saquon Barkley for "several weeks" after the superstar suffered a high-ankle sprain during the Giants' win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Barkley left the game in the second quarter and later returned to the sideline in a walking boot and on crutches. He carried the ball eight times for 10 yards while catching four passes for 19 yards before exiting.
On the season overall, he has accumulated 237 yards and a touchdown while averaging 6.4 yards per carry. In addition, he has hauled in 11 receptions for 74 yards.
The 22-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Penn State, was originally selected by New York with the second overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
He went on to have a spectacular rookie campaign, racking up 1,307 yards and 11 scores on the ground, registering five yards per attempt. He also snared 91 balls for 721 yards while reaching the end zone four times, making the Pro Bowl as a result.
For a Giants offense that is already thin on weapons with injuries and suspensions plaguing the roster, it will be tough to manage without Barkley, although New York was able to rally from an 18-point deficit in the second half to come away with a 32-31 victory in Daniel Jones' first NFL start.
The Giants are now 1-2 after picking up their first win of the season and will head back home to play host to the Washington Redskins in an NFC East clash next Sunday.
